As young adults age out of the foster care system, they are provided every type of government resource and program and still remain unprepared for life. With a special focus on those who have aged out of the foster care system and young adults that are facing major life challenges, here are some stats on where most of them fall because of the lack of Christ and family.
After Foster Care
• 25% have endured some form of homelessness.
• 46% have not completed high school.
• 60% have not maintained employment for a year.
• 29% have/had substance abuse problems.
• 32.6% of females have been pregnant.
Homeless Youth
• 57% of homeless kids spend at least one day every month without food.
• In the United States, as many as 20,000 kids are forced into prostitution by human trafficking networks every year.
• According to a study of youth in shelters, nearly 50% reported intense conflict or physical harm by a family member as a major contributing factor to their homelessness.
• Over 25% of former foster children become homeless within two to four years of leaving the system.
• 50% of adolescents aging out of foster care and juvenile justice systems will be homeless within six months because they are unprepared to live independently, have limited education and no social support.
• Almost 40% of the homeless in the United States are under 18.
In 2009, In Triumph opened it’s doors for young adults who are looking to make the changes it takes to live a significant life in Christ. Our mission is to provide shelter and discipleship for young adults who have endured lives of abuse, neglect, and homelessness. After our students have found a new life in Christ, we partner with our community to help these young adults complete their education, gain employment, or enter into the ministry.
